The Sabi Sand Trail Run, bringing communities and conservation together. This impact driven trail run, hosted by Sabi Sand Pfunanani Trust, promotes social development, poverty awareness, and the role of NPOs in crisis relief. It fosters sports wellness in local communities while bridging the gap between conservation and communities through biodiversity awareness, resource management, and habitat preservation. The event supports sustainable community programs and critical conservation efforts. By hosting a high-quality, ethically governed trail run, SSTR unites communities, conservation, and businesses to drive positive change through wellness.
The Sabi Sand Trial Run isn’t just about testing your endurance, it’s about making a difference. Taking place in Huntington Village, bordering the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, this event highlights the importance of conservation while bringing together runners from all backgrounds to experience the beauty of South Africa’s natural landscapes and promotes the importance of community integrated conservation.
Each run is named after an iconic and endangered species in Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, symbolising the urgent need to protect our wildlife:

The Sabi Sand Pfunanani Trust (SSPT), an NPO and Public Benefit Organisation, founded in 2017, is the foundation for Sabi Sand Nature Reserve whose purpose is Conservation and Communities Partnering for Social Change. SSPT aims to see neighbouring communities of Bushbuckridge, South Africa benefit from conservation through better stewardship and community-based natural resource management. This is achieved through partnership between conservation and communities helping one another – the meaning of ‘Pfunanani’. Focused on social upliftment, SSPT fosters lasting partnerships between conservation and local communities.
- Sponsored Community Runners: 400 individuals (ages 16–65) from 12 communities, equally split between Black males and females.
- Event Employment: 120 individuals (ages 18–65) from the same communities, with equal gender representation.
